Going the Extra Mile

Not Just Selling — But Also Moving

Being a Realtor often means more than guiding clients through contracts, negotiations, and closing dates. Sometimes, it means rolling up your sleeves and helping in ways that go far beyond the paperwork.

Early last year, I worked with clients who trusted me to sell their longtime home. As the market shifted, we had to adjust our strategy along the way, but in the end, the house sold successfully. My clients were older, and while they had thoughtfully decluttered before listing, anyone who has moved knows that packing up an entire home is a major undertaking—especially after years of living there.

As closing day approached, I made a point of checking in regularly. During one of those conversations, they mentioned that over the Thanksgiving weekend they would have some help coming to move a few of the larger items. As we talked, it became clear they might need more assistance than they expected. Coincidentally, my own Thanksgiving plans had fallen through, so I offered to help.

That Saturday, I showed up and got to work alongside one of their family members, moving all the basement furniture up to the garage. The items were being donated to family and local charities, and it quickly became apparent that there weren’t many extra hands available after all. I was glad I was there.

By the end of the day, my clients were incredibly grateful—and I was grateful too. Staying connected with them after the contract was signed made all the difference. Had I not kept in touch, this already stressful task could have turned into a last-minute scramble right before closing.

Instead, the move went smoothly, the stress was eased, and the weekend ended with thankful clients and a Thanksgiving that truly lived up to its name.
